Sharjah Architecture Triennial is the first major platform for architecture and urbanism in the MENASA region. Led by Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Urban Planning Council, Triennial was founded in 2017.
Sharjah Architecture Triennial's mission is to create new spaces for critical reflection and research on contemporary architecture and urbanism in the region. Drawing on local and international conversations, the Triennial reframes on the built environment of the MENASA region within its social, economic and cultural contexts.
Rooted in the city of Sharjah, the Triennial broadens architectural conversation in the UAE by making it accessible to a wider public that includes students, scholars, practitioners, and members of the public sector. It invites dialogue that accommodates the region’s rapid urban development amidst historical shifts, ongoing cultural encounters, and aspirations for the future.
Sharjah Architecture Triennial collaborates with a range of partners including Sharjah Urban Planning Council, Directorate of Town Planning and Survey, Sharjah Art Foundation, College of Architecture, Art & Design at American University of Sharjah, and Bee’ah. The inaugural edition is planned for November 2019 and will include a programme of exhibitions, urban interventions, public events, conferences, and publications.
Sharjah Architecture Triennial is legally housed under the Sharjah Urban Planning Council and funded by Government of Sharjah.
