PERU STYLE WEEK: Lorena Pestana - avant-garde, original and modern, elegant, without violating the principles of an ancient art.
Graduated architect with a project around the Chavín culture, from the north-Peruvian highlands (XIV-IV centuries BC), Lorena Pestana began her approach to jewelry during a long stay in the area of Santa María de Nieva, Alto Cashew. There he was able to investigate in depth the techniques and traditions of the Aguaruna people, perhaps the most important ethnic group in the Peruvian Amazon. On his return, in early 2002, he set up his first personal jewelry design studio in Miraflores, which a year and a half later became a successful shop-workshop open to the public, at the head of the Huaca Pucllana.
Married with two children, Lorena Pestana has continued her research and design work, together with the consequent growth and business consolidation of her brand, expanding her repertoire of techniques and materials, but without losing sight of the original traditions of the Amazonian communities, through their imagery and irreplaceable relationship with nature. His work is the most concrete demonstration that it is possible to be avant-garde, original and modern, elegant, without violating the principles of an ancient art and rather the opposite: assuming them to create a human-scale jewelry, closer to the future For the simple fact of understanding and respecting the past.
