From October 18th to 21st, the Montreal Burlesque Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with an artist line-up for the ages at Club Soda. The event, founded by international burlesque star Scarlett James, seduced its first audience back in 2009. It was the beginning of a movement that would see burlesque rise from a fringe historical curiosity to a widely popular art form, giving birth to a whole new style of entertainment in Montreal.
To mark the 10th edition, the festival brings together the finest performers over two live shows, packed with titillating activities to charm the most buttoned down. The headliners promise to dazzle and tease spectators on Friday and Saturday, with Perle Noire, the mahogany queen of burlesque; Angie Pontani, Miss Exotic World; Zoe Scarlett, Europe’s curvaceous pin-up vixen; Clea de Velours, dazzling jewel of burlesque; and Montreal’s own international royalty, the regal Scarlett James.
The Thursday Meet & Greet starts at 9 p.m at Bord’Elle boutique bar & eatery for a “dining with the stars” experience. The public is welcome to meet the celebrities for autographs and pictures.
On Friday night, at 8:00 p.m., performers will be contestants for the Lili St Cyr Award pageant. A sensational cast of veteran and emerging performers never before assembled will compete for the title. Burlesque insiders will hyperventilate with anticipation for the winners. The headliners will elect the coveted Award and 1st and 2nd runner up, after their own performances, presented that very evening.
The sparkling Saturday Grand Gala, at 8 p.m., will elevate the festivities to another level with a dream line-up, featuring the elite of international burlesque. Fans will fall helplessly under the spell of international and local performers; Elle du Jour, Wonderful Ginger, Rainbow drag, Audrey Ivory, Lady Josephine, Mister Montreal Burlesque 2017, Kage Wolfe & The Gentlemen’s Club and many more.
The Montreal Burlesque Festival has become so much more than a series of shows. It is the kind of event where spectators take immense delight in contributing to the ambiance by putting on their loveliest outfits and popping Champagne without hesitation. Being glamorous is mandatory for a proper experience. Attending the festival is joining a community oozing good humor and sensuality, and artists whose main reason of being is to share their joie de vivre.
Attendees may stroll over to the Wiggle Room and join the After-Shows Cocktail. The festivities will continue into the night with the official After-Party starting at 11 p.m. and ending after creating memories to last a lifetime. Visitors seeking a deeper immersion into the art of burlesque will find their desires fulfilled with Dance and art workshops and a Vintage shopping circuit for “Elle and Lui”.
