Steve began his art education taking drawing and painting lessons as a youngster. After high school, he went to the University of Georgia in 1967 and 68, 1969 Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and he earned his BFA degree from Auburn University in 1970. His experience has varied from a deck-hand working the Cote D’Azur to illustrator and graphic designer over many years in Atlanta. Throughout this time he continued his painting and taught himself how to carve stone. His work has sold mostly by “word of mouth” over the years. He continues to evolve his painting and sculpture.
"Working as an artist requires a combination of skill, focus, and a continuing reality check. During a 3 month illness, summer 16, I reached a place in myself that changed my art and attitude (as well as my sig). Today is about creating my visual language that synthesizes abstract and real. Letting intuition run while at the same time managing execution and expectation. Having fun on the journey."
