Tejbir Singh - Bio
Tejbir Singh is an architect by profession. Art has always been an integral part of his body & soul. He was inspired to draw & paint at a very young age. Since he was always fond of doodling, sketching & paintings, his teachers in school encouraged & introduced him to oils at a very early age. His tryst with water colours started when he joined Architecture College. Apart from these two mediums he keeps dabbling with pastels, charcoal, pen & ink as well. "My surroundings inspire me. This inspiration could come from the footprints in the sand or the play of lights & shadows at night. But in most cases it’s the urban fabric around me, the architecture & heritage which finds its way into my works," he says.
The body of works that echo his inspiration rightly & prominently are "Urban Landscapes". These landscapes are inspired a lot by his travels. He occasionally dabbles in Abstracts, Landscapes & Portraits too. He uses mixed media with prominent use of markers & sketch pens which help him in detailing the elements along with soft pastels, water colours & oils. However oils were and will remain his first love.
Tejbir currently lives & works in Bahrain .Over the years he has participated in group shows, art fairs & held Solo Exhibitions in Bahrain & India. He has been chosen as "Best Artist-Middle East (Mixed Media)" by DESTIG Magazine for 2018. Some of his works are also on display at Bahrain National Museum gift shop. One of his paintings "Rest @ Piccadilly", was chosen as one of the ten finalists in ART BOX art exhibition in New York in March this year. He has also participated in Art fairs in New York & Miami & also been featured in various Art magazines / journals like Circle Arts, Aesthetica & Bahrain Arts magazine. He has another upcoming solo exhibition in "Artifact Art Gallery", Manhattan, in March 2019.
His recent exhibition at Nehru Centre London (27th – 31st August 2018), titled – "From an Architect’s Travelogue", featured urban landscapes from his travels all over the world, but prominently from London & Europe. These mirror his inspiration as well as his fascination with architectural heritage & the urban fabric of cities. The same theme was carried over to the exhibition in Artifact Gallery with a slight shift in focus to the cityscapes & that to aerial views without being place specific.
