James R Joy - Bio
James R. Joy was born and raised in Chicago, and continues to live and work there. He began drawing with charcoal and graphite at age 10, and by age 30, James began painting with watercolor on paper. It has since become his medium of choice. "I love the transparent, misty, almost ghostlike look you can achieve with watercolor," he says.
James has had two solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group shows. He is an active member of the 119th Street Artists, and has sold several commissioned paintings.
"Whenever I draw or paint, my goal is simple: to create a memorable image. One that will resonate with people in a deeply emotional, almost spiritual way. The quest to find the truth in mood and feeling is what brings us together. If I can achieve that connection with one person, my art has been a success."
